This mural is by artist Petter Erlandsson. It depicts a ptarmigan — a bird native to the mountains of Jämtland — painted as a local take on the dove of peace. It has been given the name Lagopus Pax, meaning Peace Ptarmigan.
The bird stretches around the corner of the building and up under the roof, which means there is only one exact spot from which you can see it in perfect perspective, without the wings breaking across the corner or disappearing under the eave.
Look down and you might spot the marks on the cobblestones showing where to stand. Just be warned — they can be tricky to find in winter.
Petter Erlandsson previously studied art at Hålland Folk High School, but his interest in painting is now mostly a leisure interest that he tries to keep alive.
